MALCOLM MCMICHAEL is a New Jersey / New York–based dance artist and educator specializing in Horton, Graham, and Contemporary dance forms. Earning both his BFA and MFA from Montclair State University, Malcolm is an advocate for dance as a tool for self-expression, well-being, and authentic living within and beyond dance spaces.
As a performer, Malcolm has danced the works of Martha Graham (as a member of Graham 2), Christal Brown, Bill T. Jones, Earl Mosley, José Limón, and Stephen Shynes at venues such as The Joyce Theater, Jacob’s Pillow, and The Kennedy Center. His most recent work is his self-produced evening-length solo Embodied: Horton, Graham, and Contemporary Dance in Live-Media Performance, which premiered at the Montclair State Studio Theater in March 2026.
As an educator, Malcolm’s technique classes promote clarity, musicality, and artistry while fostering a lifelong love for dance. His teaching credits include The Joffrey Ballet School, Concepts Dance Academy, Dancewave Through College and Beyond, Teens@Graham, Ballet & Beyond NYC, and Kent Place School. He has further developed his teaching through workshops at Ailey Extension, teacher trainings in New Jersey and New York City, and a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Certification from YogaRenew. Malcolm has also been a guest choreographer for Dancewave Youth Company II, where he currently serves on its Artistic Advisory Council.
Malcolm is currently working as a freelance performer and educator while developing courses for pre-professional dancers.
